Colombo, April 8 (Daily Mirror) - Two six-year-old children were killed in separate accidents reported from Maradankadawala and Hikkaduwa on Tuesday (07), with Police launching investigations into both incidents.
In Maradankadawala, a six-year-old boy died after falling into an uncovered, water-filled pit, approximately seven feet deep, in the Kollakuttigama area.
Police said the child had accompanied his two siblings and several friends to an area near a house under construction to catch parrots when he accidentally fell into the pit.
The Maradankadawala Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
Meanwhile, another six-year-old child was killed in a road accident following a head-on collision between a passenger bus travelling towards Galle and a three-wheeler coming from the opposite direction along the Colombo–Galle main road at Wewala, Hikkaduwa.
The three-wheeler driver, two female passengers, and the child sustained injuries and were admitted to the Arachchikanda Hospital. The child, a resident of Dikwella, later succumbed to injuries.
The remaining injured persons were subsequently transferred to the Karapitiya Hospital for further treatment.
