Colombo, Sept. 21 (Daily Mirror) - Two persons have been arrested following an attack on six German tourists at a tourist hotel in Unawatuna last night.
The incident reportedly occurred during a party involving three couples. After the initial altercation, the German tourists had left the hotel on two motorcycles and a three-wheeler.
The suspects had pursued the tourists in a car, blocked their path, and attacked them.
The victims reported the incident to the Unawatuna Tourist Police, who arrested the two suspects, aged 25 and 26, within an hour and handed them over to the Habaraduwa Police.
The vehicle used in the attack was also taken into police custody.
The suspects, both involved in the local tourism business, are scheduled to be produced before court tomorrow.
The injured tourists are receiving treatment. Local tourism operators condemned the attack, stressing that such violence is unacceptable and tarnishes Sri Lanka’s image as a prime tourist destination.
