Two Israeli nationals released after alleged assault on hotel owner and wife in Arugam Bay



Pottuvil - September 01 (Daily Mirror ): Two Israeli nationals who were arrested by Pottuvil Police on Friday (29) for allegedly assaulting a hotel owner and his wife in Arugam Bay, were released on bail.

Police said the incident took place when the two foreigners, both aged 26, obstructed the road while the couple was travelling in their vehicle. A heated argument ensued, which escalated into a physical assault.

The victims sustained injuries and were admitted to the hospital for treatment.

The suspects were produced before the Pottuvil Magistrate's court on Saturday and released on a surety bail of Rs. 1 million.

The Magistrate also ordered them to hand over their passports to the court and the case will be taken again for further hearing on Wednesday.

Arugam Bay, a popular beach spot in Sri Lanka, has recently faced concerns about the behaviour of some Israeli tourists. The area is known for surfing and attracting visitors from around the world.
