Colombo, May 9 (Daily Mirror) - The tutor who is accused in the Kotahena school girl's death has been provided police protection, SJB MP Mujibur Rahman alleged yesterday.

He told Parliament that seven to eight police personnel have been assigned for the protection of the suspect.

The MP said the girl's family is known to him personally and that police had been aware of the incident for about six months.

He said the police was aware. Not that he was aware. He only knows the family personally. Most likely he has got in touch with the family after this came to light. Unlike the Minister Paulraj who is waiting for the family to come to her to make a complaint.

If the Police were aware for 6 months and failed to take action all those officers who had knowledge must be suspended and prosecuted for dereliction of duty. At least get the relevant information from this MP who claims to have knowledge and proceed to investigate

Do not waste time trying to politicising this matter. As a Lawyer, you should know that the suspect is only a suspect until determined in the Courts. Why not you help the victim's mother to lodge a complaint to the police (if not done yet) to initiate the formal process to punish the culprit?
