A Turkish Airlines passenger flight safely landed at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake last night after reporting a landing gear malfunction, airport officials confirmed.

The Airbus A330, operating flight TK-733 to Istanbul, developed a technical issue with its landing gear shortly after taking off from Katunayake, carrying 202 passengers and 10 crew members. In response, the runway at BIA was prepared for an emergency landing, with fire trucks, ambulances, and emergency response teams on standby.

Following the malfunction, the pilot conducted a precautionary fuel dump over the sea to minimize risks during landing.

The flight ultimately landed safely at BIA. However, other flights scheduled to depart from the airport experienced delays due to the incident.

The officer in charge of airport further said that the passengers on the aircraft were safely evacuated and are being transported to hotels in the vicinity of the airport, while steps have been taken to move the aircraft for repairs.
