Trial on assassination attempt on Sarath Fonseka postponed

Colombo High Court Judge Lanka Jayaratne today postponed the trial of three individuals accused of attempting to assassinate former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka in a 2006 suicide bomb attack at Army Headquarters.

The postponement was ordered after a prosecution witness, who was scheduled to testify, failed to appear in court.

Deputy Solicitor General Lakmali Karunanayake, appearing on behalf of the Attorney General, requested a new date to continue the examination of evidence. The trial is now scheduled to resume on August 4.
