Colombo, August 27 (Daily Mirror) - Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association (LPBOA) Chairman Gemunu Wijerathne said that the new joint timetable for long-distance bus services cannot be implemented all at once and should be tested for at least a month to correct any errors.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Wijerathne noted that he first proposed a joint timetable in 2012. He added that a properly managed timetable can help reduce road accidents and save passengers’ time.
“Before implementing the timetable for long-distance bus services, the time slots for each route should be carefully analysed. Sudden implementation is likely to cause errors. The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) appears to have misunderstood the timetable. Currently, the slots for SLTB buses have increased while those for private buses have been reduced,” he said.
Wijerathne also highlighted gaps in planning for short-distance bus services along the same routes. While time slots were issued for the start and end of trips, nothing was specified for long-distance bus stops. He pointed out that long-distance buses should have limited stops and that these stops should not overlap with those of short-distance services.
