Beruwala, April 27 (Daily Mirror) - President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today that the Treasury will record 2025 as the highest ever revenue generating year in Sri Lankan history.
Speaking at an election rally in Beruwala, he said the Inland Revenue Department has exceeded the expected revenue targets in January while the Customs Department has exceeded its revenue targets in January and February.
The President said that the government has given assurance that tax money will not be misused and will use all the tax money for the benefit of the people and added that reasonable taxes will be charged while helping businesses to thrive.
He said people elected the National People's Power (NPP) government with the expectations of developing the economy, putting a stop to fraud and corruption, punishing those involved in fraud and corruption, ensuring law and order, upholding democracy and lifting the country's lost image in the international arena and pointed out that the government has fulfilled most of these expectations.
The President said the government has stabilised the economy where the government has managed to maintain a stable exchange rate over the last few months and reduced interest rates below 10 percent.
He said the government has put a stop to wastage and misuse where privileges of the President, Ministers and MPs have been cut down and that the money thus saved is used to provide relief to the people.
The President said the government has ensured law and order where law is implemented equally for all.
