Train services on main line from Colombo limited to Polgahawela

COLOMBO (Daily Mirror) - The up-and-down train services on the mainline have been disrupted between Polgahawela and Rambukkana due to a train derailment, the Railways Department said.
They said the train (1164) plying from Colombo to Rambukkana was derailed between Polgahawela and Rambukkana.
Meanwhile, the main line was disrupted between Polgahawela, Rambukkana and Thismalpola railway stations due to the fall of a coconut tree and the collapse of an earth mound on the railway tracks.
Therefore, the train service from Colombo is limited to Polgahawela this evening.

It took the famous Shinkansen line in Japan more than five decades to have its first derailment, and that, too, was due to an earthquake. Today in Sri Lanka, we are having at least one derailment a week. Besides, the small train that leaves Matara at 2.00 pm to Beliatte, that transports mainly schoolchildren is not even fit for transporting cattle.
