Colombo, April 16 (Daily Mirror) - The service of the driver of the train that crashed on to the railway platform at the Colombo Fort railway station has been suspended, Railways Deputy General Manager N.J. Indipolage said.
He said an investigation into the incident was held and the final decision on the service of the driver will be taken after the report is received.
The train, which was scheduled to depart for Chillaw, crashed on to platform No. 1 of the Colombo Fort Railway Station when commencing its journey from Colombo Fort to Chilaw at 2:35 p.m. yesterday.
No injuries were reported as a result of the accident, although the front part of the train and a section of the platform were damaged.

Driver wasn't at the New Yea party thrown by the UNP leader. It was the result of weak braking system. In Sri Lanka Driver must pay the penalty

A railway train has 3 independent braking systems, but with the SLRW only one of them is usually functional. Why do the locomotive drivers refuse to drive or go on strike unless all 3 braking systems are working? Is it about the same as in SriLankan, where only some pilots, mostly foreigners, refuse to fly if the planes are not technically fit.

Such idiotic comment will make things worse instead of helping to find the problem.
Alcoholic but sober now. Tuesday, 16 April 2024 04:06 PM
Driver’s blood alcohol level will be confidential. Thus the public will not know whether he had a hangover.

Considering how rusted and rundown the train was, I am surprised it even had breaks. I feel sorry for the driver. The railway department has a fantastic track record of always finding someone to blame and washing their hands.

Chilaw line driver after the New Years Day, what do you expect? Although there may be some general problem with brakes, but such excuse cannot be held in this instance at all.

Looks like the train is very old .

No worries, look at the status of the train. Appalling, I won't be surprised the breaks are fully functioning.
