Colombo, October 3 (Daily Mirror) - In response to recent discussions on promoting LGBTQ tourism, which sparked significant public backlash, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake today (3) reaffirmed that the Government will avoid initiatives that could harm the country’s values and traditions.
Speaking at a religious ceremony at the historic Magul Maduwa (Audience Hall) in Kandy, where the Scroll of Appointment (Śrī Sannas Pathra) was presented to the Most Venerable Naranpanawe Ananda Nayake Thero, the newly appointed Anunayake of the Asgiri Chapter of the Siyam Maha Nikaya, the President emphasised that Sri Lanka’s tourism development must focus on the nation’s historical heritage, natural beauty, wildlife reserves and the world-renowned hospitality of its people.
“The backbone of a successful tourism industry lies not in trends alone, but in our rich history, stunning landscapes, diverse wildlife and the warmth of our people,” he said, adding that these elements will guide sustainable growth in the sector.
