Tour guide arrested over stabbing during tourist dispute

Colombo, April 17 (Daily Mirror) - Another tour guide involved in the stabbing of a fellow guide during a dispute over sharing tourists last evening (16) was arrested by the Kalutara North Police.

The victim, Karunamuni Sumith Roshan De Silva (39), a resident of Kuda Waskaduwa, told police that a tourist he was dealing with had been lured away by the suspect. When he confronted the suspect about it, he was stabbed.

Officer-in-Charge of the Kalutara North Police, Chief Inspector Damith K. Jayatileka is conducting further investigations.

To call oneself a tour guide, he or she must be suitably educated, properly trained and certified, and be clearly identified as such. Else every uneducated, illiterate person can claim to be a tour guide. Till this is put right foreign visitors will continue to be misinformed and fleeced.

Police should arrest any so called tour guide without a valid license or certification from a reputable company he/she works for. Put plain clothed police on the job, soon tourism will be the only income the country have after Trump's tarrifs get activated.

They are touts, beach boys and pimps, don't tarnish the word tour guides, as they are trained by the tourist board, chauffeur guides, site guides, language guides,etc.

Visit Colombo Fort,specially Chatham street. They are gangs of them fleecing tourist on money change.They have their acomlpces in tri shaws once the deal is done they vanish. They are smoking on the corridors and some day on a binge with drinks.

Please come up with some good recruiting system to recruit tourism guide across the country and Establish some tourism centres or offices across the region and make sure the government charge a small amount of fees from tourists at the airport like $10 from each one of them and that money collection from millions of tourists must be spent on the safety of tourists: it mean that you have to have to employ some security policemen or officers for tourism alone : they should employed in some tourist hot spots and some trains : in the age of digital world , they should have some network with these tourism centres and security officers to get any protection in time of emergency: any health and safety concerns must be addressed by them : the government does not need spend money for this but they should create a system to get some fees from tourists for this service : this kind of attack wouldn’t take place if we have some such security measures in place :

Since 1990 I am spending my holidays in SL two times a year, since 2016 in Kalutera. Really difficult, beach side beach boys and their girls selling clothes, road side tuktuk-drivers, selling everything. Not possible to call uber or pickme. After weeks they understud that I am going to the supermarket only to buy cat food for the hotel cats
