Toque monkey census in Anuradhapura with State, civil support

Colombo, Feb 12 (Daily Mirror) - The Anuradhapura District Agricultural Committee has decided to conduct a census to enumerate the toque monkey population, with state officials carrying out the initiative in collaboration with civil society.

The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Anuradhapura District Secretary Ranjith Wimalasuriya.

The committee also agreed to promote the programme in advance through social media. The census will be conducted within a short period by Grama Niladharis and other state officials, with the assistance of civil society.

The collected data on the toque monkey population and their primary habitats in the district will be submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation.

How do you count the number of animals that can reach almost anywhere on land??? And why should you do it? The count will vary dramatically because of the movement of the monkeys and reproduction.. What I feel is, this is just wasting time, money and effort.

Yes of course! We have already issued drivers licenses and ID cards to monkeys why stop now. More monkeys should join the workforce and politics for the country to become rich. Some call this place a Banana Republic no?

Do something practical without wasting public money on useless projects. Instead identify areas affected by Monkeys. Then catch them and put them into forests where possible else export or terminate the excess. You cannot run a country to listening to weak souls. Think about recent ltte war, how many preached peace but,solution was total anihilation.
