Toque monkey census in Anuradhapura with State, civil support

Colombo, Feb 12 (Daily Mirror) - The Anuradhapura District Agricultural Committee has decided to conduct a census to enumerate the toque monkey population, with state officials carrying out the initiative in collaboration with civil society.

The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Anuradhapura District Secretary Ranjith Wimalasuriya.

The committee also agreed to promote the programme in advance through social media. The census will be conducted within a short period by Grama Niladharis and other state officials, with the assistance of civil society.

The collected data on the toque monkey population and their primary habitats in the district will be submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation.
