Token strike against passing bill called off: CPC Trade Union Collective

The token strike, which was initiated by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) Trade Union Collective, was called off this afternoon.

CPC Union Media Spokesman Bandula Saman Kumara told the Daily Mirror that their trade union action began by refraining from all services, including fuel distribution and applying medical leave.

All activities, including fuel distribution, from the Kolonnawa and Muthurajawela refineries, have been suspended in protest against a bill being taken up in Parliament today (18), the Employees' Union of Petroleum Corporation said.

"We know that the bill was taken up for debate in Parliament today and will get passed somehow." Consequently, it is not worth continuing the strike by disrupting the services. "We will find alternative ways to defeat the passing of the bill in Parliament," he said.

We launched our trade union action not for the sake of our services but for the benefit of all people in the country, he said.

The inconvenience caused by the general work stoppage and the disruption of the service should be borne by the Power and Energy Minister and the entire Cabinet of Ministers. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
