Colombo, Feb 29 (Daily Mirror) - The time has come to decide whether we should remain in an assembly where its head repeatedly violates the Constitution, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said today.

Premadasa came up with this remark during a meeting held at the Saranakara Maha Vidyalaya, Bingiriya today.

"Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena is openly violating the Constitution. He violated the Constitution by casting his vote to approve the appointment of a new IGP. He had written to the President stating that he decided to cast his vote at the Constitutional Council on the assumption that the two civil members who abstained were  against the appointment of Deshabandu Tennekoon as the new IGP. The Speaker seems to have pushed the Constitution aside and is doing things his own way. Therefore, the time has come for us to decide whether we should remain in Parliament or not," he said.

"One should also decide whether the present Constitution is of any use when it is not followed by high authorities," he added.

In a way that is what is happening. The govt does not heed the opposition voices and bulldozing through disregarding every tenet. So by staying away at least the cost of sitting expenses of the opposition will be saved.

It's best he stay at home as all he does is to talk a lot and oppose everything that is proposed from the other side.

Why complain because you are also one of them. Then, do you agree with me when I say that the elected PARLIAMENT is not required and I feel that the country can govern itself with its qualified and educated Sri Lankans (now, educated and qualified S.L. do not have a place in governing). what do you say, PREMADASA?

Were you sleeping all this time? You cannot walk the talk and talk the walk. At the end of the day you are no better than the rest.
