Colombo, September 15 (Daily Mirror)- Time allocated in Parliament for the Opposition to raise real issues faced by the people is being curtailed, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa alleged today.

Speaking during the "Gamin Gamata Dorin Dorata" (From Village to village and door to door) programme in Medawachchiya, Premadasa said time allocated for the Opposition is being curtailed by switching off microphones as and when the MPs rise to speak.

“What should be done is to listen to the people and resolve the issues faced by them,” Premadasa added.

It is right that the parties are only given speaking time in proportion to the percentage of votes they received in the election. This means that they “to should” stick to the essentials and not waste their speaking time on nonsense. It is entirely justified that the microphones are switched off when the speaking time is up.

We have seen how the opposition have used their time by behaving like thugs using unbecoming language fit the lowest of the low. Learn to use your time productively and constructively, and then people will start to listen. May be the 159 seat majority mean that proportionately you should have less time?

Well, I saw this guy requested 5 minutes and used about 10 minutes to ask 5 questions, which pretty much covered issues entire education sector including higher education. And the minister only had 5 minutes to answer all of those. And these people are supposed to be the ones who have experience in governance.
