Colombo, September 30 (Daily Mirror) - The Western Provincial Road Passenger Transport Authority (WPRPTA) announced that issuing and obtaining tickets on private buses will be mandatory from tomorrow (October 1).
WPRPTA Chairman Gamini Jayasinghe said the law will be strictly enforced, warning that both drivers and passengers who fail to comply will face action.
He added that GPS devices will be installed on passenger buses and a card payment system will be introduced before the end of the year as part of efforts to modernize public transport services.
Under the new rule, conductors who fail to provide tickets will be fined Rs. 750, while passengers who do not obtain a ticket will be fined twice the fare plus Rs. 100.
