Thunderstorms and heavy rains on the cards

Colombo, Oct. 5 (Daily Mirror) - The Meteorology Department has warned of thundershowers and heavy rainfall across most parts of the country today.

According to the forecast, showers or thundershowers will develop over many areas of the island after 1.00 p.m., while a few areas in the Western and North-Western provinces, as well as Galle and Matara districts, may experience morning showers.

Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is likely at certain locations in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Central, and Uva provinces, the Department said.

As such, the public has been advised to remain cautious, particularly during thundershowers, and to minimize exposure to lightning-prone areas.
