Three-wheeler fares to remain unchanged despite fuel price reduction

Colombo, April 1 (Daily Mirror) - Despite the Rs. 10 reduction in petrol prices, there is no possibility of lowering three-wheeler fares, the All-Island Three-Wheeler Drivers' Association (AITWA) said.

Association President Lalith Dharmasekara told the Daily Mirror that instead of reducing fares, the government should focus on implementing formal regulations to provide a more efficient service to the public.

He added that since petrol prices have only decreased by Rs. 10 per litre, reducing fares by 50 cents per kilometre is not practical.

Can a law be passed to make all these formulas transparent so people know that they are being charged fairly? Price of goods, Fuel and electricity has decreased in massive amounts since the new Govt., yet only a small fraction has been passed onto the consumers. Imported Milk Powder increased by 50Rs, but they are charging 10Rs extra per cup of tea. My question is why are they using imported Milk Powder prices to determine Milk Tea prices? Milco reduced its Fresh Milk price by 10Rs. Use that! From top to bottom, everyone is robbing everyone.

But if petrol was increased by 10/- they would increase the fare by 5/- per km! Anyway we don’t use 3 wheels, but that’s not an excuse for a government which cannot stop ganchanas‘ kommis 6 months on!
