Colombo, October 5 (Daily Mirror) - Three people have died in a tragic road accident that occurred early this morning (05) near Narammala town on the Narammala–Kurunegala road, when a lorry collided head-on with a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus.
Police said the accident took place when the lorry, travelling from Kurunegala towards Narammala, veered off to the right side of the road after the driver lost control and crashed into the bus, which was heading from Katunayake to Akkaraipattu.
The driver of the lorry, along with a man, two women, and two children who were inside the vehicle, sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the Narammala and Kurunegala hospitals. The driver, a man, and a woman later succumbed to their injuries.
The deceased have been identified as residents of Polonnaruwa, aged 41, 80, and 82.
A 40-year-old woman and two girls aged 16 and 9, who were also in the lorry, are still receiving treatment at the Kurunegala Hospital.
Meanwhile, the driver of the SLTB bus has been arrested in connection with the incident, and further investigations are being carried out by the Narammala Police.
