Three arrested for defrauding money using photos of children in Cancer Hospital

Colombo, Oct. 16 (Daily Mirror) - Three individuals belonging to an organised gang were arrested for defrauding millions of money by posting on Facebook the photos fraudulently taken of children who are receiving treatment at the Apeksha Hospital, Maharagama.

Two smart phones used for the fraud were also taken into police custody.

Police said the suspects were arrested following complaints by the parents of the children in Kadawatha, Ja-Ela and Kiribathgoda.

Investigations have revealed that the suspects have obtained the children's photos sent by their parents to various religious places, seeking speedy recovery for them, and posted them on Facebook with appealing captions for financial support.
