Those who want to rescue country from economic crisis will support DDR: Prasanna

Those who want to rescue the country without going back to the era of queues will support the Domestic Debt Restructuring (DDR) programme, while those who want to see the country go back to anarchy will oppose it, Chief Government Whip, Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said today.

He said people will realise who really wants to rescue the country from the economic crisis and who will not.

"The opposition likes when there are fuel queues and no gas. They want the country to go back to anarchy. Only then can they engage in their political agenda," he told reporters after the Gampaha District Development Committee meeting.

The Minister said there was no discussion on a Cabinet reshuffle during the recent Cabinet meeting and only ways and means to rescue the country from the economic crisis were discussed. (Ajith Siriwardana)

By now rather than throwing bits and pieces of the solution one by one, the president and the government must deliver a total plan of action for the next 20 years with actionable items tagged for the 20 ministries that should govern this country. If we are giving hope for 2048, the hope must be supported with a plan. To start with what action are we taking immediately in the next 3 years to increase dollar revenue from manufacturing, services and agriculture? DDR is another small piece of compelled action we have to do. but if we are truly benefit from the IMF loans we have to know our journey.

Look at who is talking about the country's finances. I know you and also your entire family personally and I know that you know nothing about economics. Whom are you trying to hoodwink? Aren't you ashamed to be giving frequent statements like this when you are a thug who got caught robbing the nation's money just like your father? Just keep quiet, will you? Enough is enough. You are one of the people who got together with GR and brought the country to ruin.

You found guilty for cheating money of that foreign couple. You were sentenced to pay the highest fine imposed for a culprit. Having appealed the case to higher courts you are behaving as an innocent.

Is that for the benefit of the Kappam guys?
