SJB MP Mayatha Dissanayake has been pressurized by his party leadership to tender his resignation from the chairmanship of the Public Finance Committee, UNP General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara alleged today.
Dissanayake was pressurized by the SJB leadership through another senior MP, Range Bandara told a media conference.
"Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa initially wanted to prevent former Chairman of Finance Committee Dr. Harsha de Silva from getting re-appointed to the post.
However, he had asked Dissanayake to resign just to please de Silva. It seems that Mr. Premadasa had not been able to control both de Silva and Dissanayake," he said.
"I predicted that those who divide UNP will not survive and it had brought to light that SJB is divided into several factions. There is Rajitha faction, Fonseka faction and the latest is Mayatha faction. I challenge SJB leader to unite all these factions and show us, “he also said.
The UNP General Secretary who confirmed the recent remark made by Minister Harin Fernando in Badulla that UNP will form a grand political alliance, said some MPs from SJB, SLPP, SLFP will join in this alliance in the near future.(Yohan Perera)

It is more appropriate to say that the UNP will not survive for long.
