Colombo, April 10 (Daily Mirror) - Probes have revealed that there was a supreme leader who controlled Zahran, who led the suicide attacks on Easter Sunday in 2019, Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala told Parliament yesterday.

Speaking during the debate on the Easter Sunday attacks, Minister Wijepala said some of the information revealed is too sensitive, especially in the wake of pending court cases.

“Probes are going in the right direction,” he said, highlighting that Zahran and his group were behind the killing of two policemen in Vavunathivu. “The Easter Sunday attacks would have been prevented if proper investigations had been conducted and Zahran had been arrested,” he added.

He also revealed that the two weapons belonging to the policemen killed in Vavunathivu have been recovered. “One weapon was recovered from Wanathawilluwa and the other from Nintavur.”

Furthermore, the Minister said Scotland Yard, the FBI and Interpol have been involved in the Easter Sunday probes.
