Thai woman detained for walking half-naked in Arugam Bay tourist area

A Thai female tourist who walked half-naked through the Arugam Bay tourist zone was taken into custody by female officers of the Women and Children's Bureau from the Pottuvil Police Station yesterday, police said.
The incident took place at around 12:30 PM, when the woman was seen walking from one hotel to another hotel wearing only partial clothing. According to a senior officer at the Pottuvil Police, the woman is a Thai national.
Police officers, along with female personnel from the Pottuvil Police, had located her, and taken her to the Pottuvil Police Station. She is scheduled to be produced before the Pottuvil Magistrate’s Court today (15).
It was revealed that she had arrived in Sri Lanka accompanying a US national and had booked accommodation at a tourist hotel in Arugam Bay from the 11 to 20 of this month.
She is to be produced in court under Section 4 of Ordinance No. 1841 for disorderly or indecent conduct in public. The Pottuvil Police have also informed the Thai Embassy regarding the incident.
