Tense situation at central mail exchange amid postal strike

Colombo, August 22 (Daily Mirror) - A tense situation erupted between employees and officials at the Central Mail Exchange today while transporting a stock of postal bags.

United Postal Trade Unions' Front co-convener Chinthaka Bandara said the postal workers’ strike has entered its fifth consecutive day.

Meanwhile, Postmaster General Ruwan Sathkumara stated that a request has been made to the Defence Ministry to provide vehicles from the Defence Division to assist in distributing the letters and parcels currently piled up due to the strike.

Government should never giving to their unjust demand. Priority demand is to make them accept the finger print requirement when attending to the work

Fully agree with other comments. Postal Department is incurring huge losses. Even their salaries are paid via tax payer monies.

Dear postal workers, resign and join Port if you wish to earn 1,000 hours of overtime per month with no work after 5 p.m. and only a few working hours during the day.
