Teachers can solve their issues by working in collaboration with govt: Lokuge
The government knows how to respect teachers, value their services, and understand their responsibilities and therefore, it is advisable they work in collaboration with the government, Power Minister Gamini Lokuge said.
During a speech at the Foundation Institute today, he stated that when this government was formed, they received more support from the teachers.
"Although some groups are working to achieve narrow goals, they are trying to destabilize the government under the guise of this teachers' issue," he said. As an educated and intelligent group, I urge the teachers' unions to understand the situation, Minister Lokuge said.
Other than the salary anomalies, the government is considering ideas to solve the issues related to the acting principals by next year, the Minister said.
"The issues relevant to the teachers' union were not resolved by the Yahapalanaya government. They were unable to increase the teachers' salaries. They requested to remove their salary issues. But today, our government was able to point out to the teachers' unions that these anomalies should be removed, " Minister Lokuge said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
