Colombo, May 9 (Daily Mirror) - The teacher allegedly involved in the molestation of a schoolgirl from a leading school in Kotahena has been sent on compulsory leave following the submission of a police B report, the Ministry of Education confirmed today.

According to the ministry, immediate disciplinary action was taken in response to the serious nature of the allegations.

“We have placed the teacher on compulsory leave with immediate effect, and an internal investigation has also been initiated,” the ministry added.

If nobody spoke up this issue would probably have been swept under the carpet. Likewise, if nobody holds this govt accountable they will not deliver on the promise of bringing back the stolen money.

The affected person is a minor and has died by suicide, yet the accused has not been arrested and has only been placed on compulsory leave. What kind of justice does our Constitution provide? This situation seems like a mockery of the system. I strongly believe that our Constitution provide regulation to serve the victims, not to shield the perpetrators or culprits. Dr. Harni, please take time to revisit our constitution. Because you have power in the parliament (159 members)to do it

This compulsory leave came after the parents of the school in Puthalm where he was transferred protested and refused to accept him. Originally he was only transferred to another school. Looks as if the authorities are trying to save this man with minimum punishment. All including the Principal and the teachers who went to bail him out should be punished.
