Tax revenue not benefiting the public: Namal

Colombo, July 20 (Daily Mirror) - SLPP National Organiser and MP Namal Rajapaksa alleged that the government was failing to use tax revenue for public welfare despite collecting record levels of income.

Speaking at a divisional meeting in Deraniyagala yesterday (19), Namal claimed that taxes paid by the public were not being utilised to improve rural roads, schools, hospitals or places of worship.

He also referred to recent claims regarding a cyberattack involving government funds, alleging that despite the government earning the highest revenue in history, money had been lost while essential public services continued to face shortages.

Namal further claimed that the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank were blaming each other over the incident and said those responsible should be held accountable and compensate the people.

He also questioned what legal action had been taken over the importation of allegedly substandard coal, claiming that no action had been initiated so far.
