Tax hike on imported milk powder will not affect local prices: Association

The customs tax on imported milk powder was increased yesterday, the Milk Powder Importers' Association said.

The spokesman from the association told the Daily Mirror that the government had imposed an import tax of Rs. 100 for a kilogram of milk powder.

However, considering the appreciation of the Sri Lankan rupee against the US dollar, the association has decided not to increase the milk powder prices. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

So, the appreciation of Rupees when announced the theory was all right, but very unfortunately, the Rupees once again depreciated drastically day-by-day, then will it mean that the consumers be taxed?
