Take better precautions when organizing dansalas due to risk of spreading diarrhea: PHI union

The Public Health Inspectors' (PHI) Union today requested organizers to pay more attention to health advice when organizing dansalas for the upcoming Vesak festival.

Union president Upul Rohana said the announcement was made since there is a risk of spreading diarrhea.

Rohana requested organisers to inform the details of their planned dansalas to the PHI office of the area. Relevant instructions provided by the respective PHI offices should be followed by the organizers. The PHI officers will inspect the dansala locations while in operation and afterwards.

Due to the risk of spreading diarrhea, the dansala organizers should be extra careful of the quality of the water used to prepare drinks etc. Food should be protected from flies and dust.

There are very few dansalas operating this year when compared ro previous Vesak festivals.

Upul Rohana further said that the containers and utensils used for the dansalas will also be subjected to strict inspection by their officers this time. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
