TID probes Harak Kata’s allegations against Ex-Minister, IGP

Colombo, May 15 (Daily Mirror) - The Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) has launched an investigation into claims by underworld figure Nadun Chinthaka Wickremeratne, alias Harak Kata, who alleged that he is being detained in Tangalle after refusing to pay a Rs. 300 million bribe.

Wickremeratne claimed the bribe was allegedly demanded by former Public Security Minister Tiran Alles and suspended Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Tennakoon.

He made the allegations on Wednesday while being escorted by police from the Colombo Court Complex following a court hearing.

"There are so many things to say. I will reveal them then," he briefly told reporters before being taken back into custody.

Wickremeratne also alleged that his ongoing detention costs Rs. 10 million per month. Authorities have not yet commented on the claims.

Police said that a TID team has been appointed to investigate into the remarks and that the inquiry commenced today.
