The UAE have been knocked out of the T20 World Cup with a 79-run loss to Sri Lanka in a Group A match in Geelong, Australia, on Tuesday.

The UAE were bowled out for 73 chasing 153, their second straight loss in the tournament.

Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva led the bowling attack for Sri Lanka as he returned with astounding figures of 3/8, while Dushmantha Chameera returned with 3/15.

Batting first on the invitation of UAE, former champions Sri Lanka managed to amass a decent total of 152/8 in their quota of 20 overs at the back of a brilliant knock of Nissanka.

The integrity of any international tournament is lost if a country brings in foreign players and create an artificial national team. What do UAE know about cricket ? All it’s players are highly paid foreigners. This shows the corruption at the heart of ICC. The oil rich desert Arabs must have bribed the senior executives of the ICC in millions to turn a blind eye.

Well done SL Lions against UAE. There few some things to consider: 1. It was highly irresponsible of the SL Selectors to include in the World Cup team Goonalilleke and Asalanka, two out-of-form cricketers. Do not get me wrong, Asalanka may start scoring centuries and double centuries as Marvan Atapattu did after some 10 ducks. but we cannot afford to have so many ducks now. This is World Cup and each match is do or die match. 2. Opening with Kusal Medis has not worked. We need to find an opener who can score fast as well and stay at the wicket for at least 20 balls. If it is possible send Goonatillake and Asalanka back to SL and get two batsmen. may be Dickwella and Avishka Fernando or any other two batsmen in form. 3. The players must be careful of running between the wickets and also they should not allow hattricks. This is easier said than done but please try. Good luck R.M.
