Colombo, March 20 (Daily Mirror) - A systematic procedure is being prepared to ensure an adequate fuel supply for container trucks, as part of efforts to ease congestion at the Colombo Port and maintain the smooth flow of imports and exports.
Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Anura Karunathilake has initiated steps to introduce a structured system to provide sufficient fuel for container transport vehicles. The move aims to expedite the clearance of imported containers from the port and ensure export containers are delivered on time, safeguarding the country’s export revenue.
As part of the process, the Chairman of the Container Transport Vehicle Owners Association has been instructed to submit comprehensive data, including vehicle QR codes, to facilitate accurate and efficient fuel distribution without discrepancies.
Accordingly, data relating to 1,325 container trucks were submitted to the Ministry today.
The Minister also said that discussions will be held with officials of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation to implement a swift solution. Following concerns raised by container truck operators over insufficient fuel allocations, plans are underway to review and increase the existing quota in consultation with relevant stakeholders.
