Feb 24, (Daily Mirror) - The Health Ministry has launched an investigation and appointed a committee to look into the incident surrounding the suspected deaths at the dialysis unit of the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.

Speaking of the matter, Secretary of the Ministry of Health Dr. Palitha Mahipala said the at least five deaths have occurred since January at the dialysis unit.

Accordingly, a five-member committee headed by Chief Epidemiologist Dr Samitha Ginige has been appointed to look into the matter.

According to sources, the incident may have occurred due to the entry of certain unidentified pathogens into the blood dialysis unit.

However, the Health Ministry is investigating the entire scenario to ascertain the actual cause of the deaths.

In light of the situation, the health authorities have taken prompt measures to shut down the unit and direct the kidney patients to other nearest units.

  • MBBS, MD, FRCS: are part of propaganda to make doctors look like experts Saturday, 24 February 2024 05:42 PM

Doctors have no scientific knowledge why some people survive and why some don’t. We are fooled to believe them as experts because of the tittles they have. They just play with the medicines , sent by pharmaceuticals. What they actually do can easily be done by a Nurse or a Patamedic.

    Chris Sunday, 25 February 2024 05:55 AM

You are very correct. Qualified nurses do a much better job. Doctors are more keen on rushing through ward rounds and running off for private practice. The health system is in shambles. Doctors at private hospitals always recommend warding after wrong diagnosis and frightening patients. There is a massive mafia going on.. Doctors, hospitals pharmacy companies.

Because paramedics(as quoted by you) are the noble prize won scientists. This is what happens when the govt pays too much of for a idiotic certificate or diploma holders

This will be washed under the carpet. Doctors are yet to find doctors guilty of negligence

My sister who passed away exactly 3 months ago today at the general hospital in Colombo. She was admitted there after an ankle dislocation. Doctors at the hospital couldn't do a surgery due to her asthma condition. This was the statement given to us. She was in a good spirit the day she passed away. My brother visited her the day she passed away and given her dinner as well. She was in a good stable condition. My brother received a phone call from the hospital to say that she passed away around 1 am. It was a real shock for our family. I lived overseas and couldn't attend the funeral even as they cremated her the following day. This is an unpublished story. How many people are affected without any publishing. I'm certain that these incidents are due to doctors and nurses negligence duties. The authorities should answer

Have you heard of pulmonary embolism which occurs in secondary patients and kills them with a few minutes/seconds. Don’t blame the doctors foe every death

    AChildOfGod Sunday, 25 February 2024 08:31 AM

So sorry Ranjan, may her soul continue to RIP.

TIME TO DEEP CLEAN ALL GOVERNMENT HOSPITALS Saturday, 24 February 2024 10:22 PM

IT CAN EVEN BE THE HOSPITAL'S FAULT, THERE ARE SEVERAL WAYS PATHOGENS ENTER THE BODY AND IF THE HOSPITAL AND ALL THE EQUIPMENT THE USE FOR PROCEDURES ARE NOT SERTLIZED. WE HAVE 4 TYPES AND MANY WAYS IT CAN ENTER THE BODY/BLOODSTREAM. USUALLY, GOVERNMENT HOSPITALS ARE KNOWN TO BE FILTHY. NOT SURE IF DIALYSIS MACHINES CAN BE HOOKED UP BY NURSING STAFF AT TIME, SO WE CAN'T BLAME THE DOCTORS.

I was a QHSE coordinator in a reputed hospital. In hospitals, certain sections in hospitals are categorised as High Risk areas including Dialysis Unit. Strict Infection Control measures to be in High Risk areas. In Sri Lankan hospitals everything is taken for granted. Here Here Care system is lousy. That is why our politicians and well off people go to foreign countries for medical treatment.

sacre blieu Sunday, 25 February 2024 09:46 AM

even some of the state hospitals that were noted for its efficiency and good patient care have now been now been observed to deteriorate and in particular observed in the Kalubovila hospital, in addition. Some appear to be run by the other staff and even by the attendants who are off -handish to the patients and even forced to hire outside help, another racket. when will all this come to an end.

    Ranjan Sunday, 25 February 2024 10:13 AM

Hello Ranjith , I myself a doctor and I know what's pulmonary embolism. Thanks

    KP Sunday, 25 February 2024 12:43 PM

Then why are you accusing doctors without any basis for your allegations, like an idiot?

    Ranjite Sunday, 25 February 2024 04:59 PM

Well said KP, FHi Ranjan I am sorry for your sisters death, but don’t just blame the doctors for nothing. You studied in SL. FREE and now you are in a foreign country earning more money and blaming the SLdoctors. Why not go to SL and work for the Sri Lankan. And Improve their standards, instead of criticising them without any evidence

This shows the performance of the Healtg minister, who has been a just a bugger, he should be responsible for all this and, must sentence him for life in prison

Why the FAVOURITES of WYAMBA are, still not woken up to Protect the Yapahuwa Kingdom original name of location ‘Yapawwa’ and the continuing death and Mayhem at the Principal Healthcare institution in the region!!?? KURUNEGALA HOSPITAL, ESPECIALLY the “DIALYSIS UNIT”!!!??? OR are these PATRIOTS and NATIONALISTS who starve themselves, ‘CLAIMING UNTIL DEATH’, accepting Orange Juice and Lemon Puff from the HEAD OF STATE, with a Benign smile, to escape the PAIN!!?? SHAM to say the least!! Con Agents!!!??? Or, else, is it because, Dialysis, has nothing to do with The ‘Fallopian Tubes’ of Females, which were of special interest to one and all, but Dialysis remains isolated with the KIDNEYS!!!??? What a circus, God only could discern why THEN AND NOT NOW!!?? Sri Lankans are special breed by themselves, unlike any other in this world!!!???

Karalasingam Sivalingam Sunday, 25 February 2024 03:59 PM

Negligence, death is a common phenomena in many hospitals, only the demised family members would feel the loss, if their dear ones are affected, if a bread winner becomes the victim, the family will be in disarray, what would be the outcome of an inquiry, will any compensation paid to the victims of medical negligence.

    Mahila Monday, 26 February 2024 02:08 AM

Aby, "Because paramedics (as quoted by you) are the prize won scientists." If, I May be permitted, You meant NOBEL Prize, referring to, 'Nobel Prizes in various fields of Science and Literature worldwide.', after - Famous Alfred Nobel - inventor of Dynamite, TNT and holder of 355 patents, Professional Chemist, Inventor, Engineer, Entrepreneur, Businessman, Author - who Bequeathed large Chunk of his wealth, 265 million USD today, to fund the prizes by his Last Will and Testament of 1895, to pursuit of honouring Professionals in 5 disciplines!!? Since 10th December 1901, Nobel Prize has so honoured annually, Men and Women, around the world for outstanding achievements in PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY, PHYSIOLOGY OR MEDICINE, LITERATURE and for WORK IN PEACE!?!!? These guys in SL wouldn’t qualify, EXCLUDED; they are selfish, full of AVARICE!!??
