Suspect arrested over Rs. 6.8 Mn online fraud

Colombo, Dec.12 (Daily Mirror) -A 31-year-old resident of Welipenna was arrested by the Cyber Crimes Investigation Division over a large-scale online fraud.

Police said investigations were launched following a complaint that money had been fraudulently credited to an account under the guise of an online money-making opportunity. 

The suspect had reportedly connected the victim to a Telegram group and defrauded him of Rs. 6,860,000. Police said the suspect had later deposited an amount of Rs. 500,000 to his bank account.

Officers of the North-Western Provincial Sub-Unit arrested the suspect yesterday.
