Supermarket fined Rs. 500,000 for selling Nadu rice above controlled price

Colombo, July 24 (Daily Mirror) - A supermarket in Gampola has been fined Rs. 500,000 after pleading guilty to selling locally produced Nadu rice above the government-controlled maximum retail price.

According to the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA), the supermarket was found selling Nadu rice at Rs. 240 per kilogram, exceeding the prescribed maximum retail price of Rs. 230 per kilogram, during a raid conducted by CAA officers on June 23.

When the case was taken up before the Gampola Magistrate’s Court, the supermarket admitted to the offence, and the court imposed a fine of Rs. 500,000, the CAA said.
