Colombo, July 29 (Daily Mirror) - ‘Sumedha’, the well-known elephant native to the Minneriya National Park, was captured on camera once again by a visitor to the park as she roamed the Minneriya Tank Reserve on yesterday (28).
Sumedha, who lost her right tusk after being hit by a lorry a few months ago, had not been seen for some time. The elephants reappearance has brought relief to wildlife enthusiasts and park officials, who were concerned about her condition.
Despite her injury, Sumedha appears to be in good health and is actively roaming her native territory within the park. Visitors have recently witnessed her engaging in dominance battles with other wild elephants, a common occurrence during this period as elephants assert control over territory and resources.
Wildlife officials said such interactions are part of natural elephant behavior, especially during the dry season when competition among males intensifies.
