COLOMBO (Daily mirror) - Due to the considerable rainfall in some upstream and middle-reach catchment areas of the Maha Oya basin, there is a possibility of sudden flood situations occurring in low-lying areas of the Maha Oya valley in Alawwa, Diwulapitiya, Meerigama, Pannala, Wennappuwa, Negombo, Katana and Dankotuwa D/S Divisions, the Irrigation Department said.
While issuing a flood warning message, the Hydrology and Disaster Management Division said the warning was issued after analyzing the current rainfall situation and river water levels at the hydrological stations in Maha Oya.
People living in low-lying areas of the Maha Oya Valley are requested to pay high attention in this regard and motorists in these areas are requested to take adequate precautions.
