With the arrival of the MV Van Hai A 10 vessel at the Colombo International Container Terminals (CICT), the Port of Colombo (POC) has witnessed a substantial increase in the number of vessels visiting its terminals, Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said.
The vessel arrived at the CICT yesterday (16) marking the ship's first visit to the esteemed POC as part of the Asia to America Service 7 (AA7).
Addressing the gathering at the event, the minister said this growth can be attributed to the meticulous execution of both short-term and long-term strategic measures at the Port.
The timely and successful completion of all the ongoing large-scale development programmes at the port will not only attract a greater number of container vessels but also various other cargo, service and passenger vessels as well to its terminals, thus solidifying its position as the central hub port in the Asian region, the minister added.
The vessel, measuring 335 metres in length and 51 metres in width, sailing under the Singapore flag called at the POC yesterday. With a draft of 51 metres, this vessel has a capacity of 14,000 TEUs.
