Colombo, Jan. 22 (Daily Mirror) - Plans are afoot to allow students with disabilities to gain entrance to all academic disciplines, including medicine, in state universities, Deputy Minister of Education Madhura Seneviratne said today.

He told Parliament that the University Grants Commission has approved the new policy in this regard.

Responding to a question raised by visually impaired MP  Sugath Wasantha de Silva, he said that students with disabilities are able to gain entrance only for four academic disciplines at present.

The Minister said the new move will expand the university entrance opportunities for students with disabilities.

He said according to the new policy, students with disabilities will be admitted to all academic disciplines, including medicine and science in state universities, suitable to the nature of the disability.
