Colombo, Feb 07 (Daily Mirror) - Strict security arrangements will be in place for the presentation of the budget on February 17, 2025, Deputy Speaker Rizvy Salih announced today.

Accordingly, the public car park will be closed while MPs have been asked to bring only their spouses and not any other guests.

The Parliament gallery will be opened only for invited guests.

The people merely wants to know what's in the budget and how it would affect them. Never heard of the public craving to see its presentation in Parliament cos TV channels normally go live. Cannot understand the strict security requirements.

What is so spectacular about this budget? First part usually devoted to economic status but I presume this time it will be blaming previous governments forgetting all what JVP did was to obstruct every turn and corner. Then traditional tea by the finance minister. Will the comrade have ? It is anybody's guess. Then comes proposals. No wonder most of the NPP members have not seen inside the parliament neither their spouses. Good chance at the cost of the public. What was the necessity for the deputy speaker make such a statement. Are we in for a surprise?

I do not see the rationality in allowing spouses to be present for budget presentation. Most of the spouses will not understand. Spouses biggest contribution to the country is to bring up their children as good ad respectabe citizens.
