Colombo, Jan. 22 (Daily Mirror) - The National Gem and Jewellery Authority (NGJA) has clarified that a stone recently discovered in the Deltotawatta area of Galaha in Kandy does not have high commercial or market value.
In a statement, the authority said examinations revealed that only a small quantity of the mineral labradorite is embedded within a host rock.
While labradorite is classified as a semi-precious gemstone, the NGJA noted that the overall rock does not possess significant commercial or market worth.
Reports emerged two days ago claiming that a stone believed to be a blue gemstone had been found within a black rock near the Sri Muthumari Amman Kovil in the Deltotawatta Kallanthena area of Galaha, drawing public attention.
Following these reports, officials from the National Gem and Jewellery Authority visited the site and conducted an inspection, after which the findings were confirmed.
