Stern action to be taken against harmful plastic baby items: Minister

Colombo, July 3 (Daily Mirror) - Stern action will be taken against importers and manufacturers of harmful plastic baby items such as feeding bottles, lunch boxes, water bottles and toys within the next two months, Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe said today.

He told the media that sample testing and research have revealed that inferior quality and harmful plastic items intended for babies are available in the market.

The Minister said an expert committee covering several Ministries such as Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Industries will be appointed to wihin the next two months to decide on taking action on the use of harmful plastic items.
