Stephanie appointed to PO Committee due to social service work: Spokesman

Colombo, Jan. 29 (Daily Mirror) - The Government has appointed a six-member Prison Observation Committee with the objective of identifying issues faced by prison detainees and carrying out welfare-related activities.

Well-known model and former beauty queen Stephanie Siriwardhana, who won the Sri Lanka Beauty Queen title in 2011 and was later crowned Miss Asia in 2013, has been included among the members of the newly established committee.

Prison Media Spokesperson A.C. Gajanayake, speaking to the Daily Mirror, said that the appointment of committee members had been carried out in accordance with established procedures of the Prisons Department. He further explained that the main responsibility of the committee is to observe the difficulties encountered by detainees, bring these issues to the attention of the relevant authorities and ensure the welfare and well-being of inmates.
