The Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters' Union (SLRSMU) threatened yesterday to launch an immediate trade union action if the transport ministry fails to appoint a suitable person for the post of Railways Deputy General Manager (Commercial).
SLRSMU Chief Secretary Kasun Chamara said in a letter to the Transport Minister today that the Railways Department had decided to appoint a corrupt executive officer who had been involved in delaying several promotions such as the GMR position.
SLRSMU said that they had informed the minister about this corrupt officer. Instead of taking legal action against him, the Railway Department decided to promote him.
The SLRSMU requested the minister to take immediate action to withhold his promotion and conduct necessary legal action against him. They also requested the minister to appoint a suitable person for the post of Railways' Deputy General Manager (Commercial) and provide solutions for their unresolved issues.
The union urged the ministry that they will not hesitate to resort to an immediate trade union action if this corrupt officer is appointed to the post of Railways Deputy General Manager (Commercial).
According to the SLRSMU Chief Secretary, the strike's impact on commuters will be publicized through the media. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
