State Minister urges public to clap more for foreign reserve claim

Colombo, April 8 (Daily Mirror) - NPP State Minister Nalin Hewage urged the public gathered at a rally to cheer more enthusiastically for his claim on the increase in Treasury reserves.

During his speech, he looked disappointed at the faint cheer he received from the public when he mentioned that Sri Lanka’s Treasury held only USD 20 million when the National People’s Power (NPP) Government assumed office.

“However, our administration has increased Treasury reserves to USD 6.19 billion,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, addressing the matter, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayatissa today revealed monthly figures verified by the Central Bank, outlining Sri Lanka’s official reserve levels from September 2024 to March 2025.

According to the Cabinet Spokesman, Treasury reserves stood at USD 5.99 billion in September 2024, USD 6.47 billion in October 2024 and USD 6.51 billion in March 2025.
