State Minister Chamara Sampath Dassanayake told Parliament that he is willing to surrender if he is involved in the scam of selling iron at the Kankasanthurai Cement factory.
“I will be going to the CID and therefore the police can arrest me if they want. I ask the Speaker to grant permission to the police to arrest me as it is needed to arrest an MP,” the State Minister said.
Deputy Speaker Ajith Rajapaksa who was the Chair said the police can arrest him any time now as the State Minister is willing to surrender.
“Police have permission to arrest the State Minister as he is willing to give himself up,” he said.
Former Chairman of the Sri Lanka Cement Corporation Gamini Ekanayake on Wednesday lodged a complaint against State Minister Chamara Sampath Dassanayake with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). He alleged that theft amounting to billions of rupees had taken place at the state-owned Kankasanthurai cement factory with the endorsement of the Minister. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)
