SriLankan flight to Japan returns due to technical failure

The Sri Lankan flight which departed from the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) to Japan's Narita International Airport, had to return to the BIA after taking off for two hours and 25 minutes due to a technical fault, the Airport Duty Manager said.

The aircraft was the largest A330-300 Airbus owned by SriLankan Airlines.

SriLankan Airlines flight UL-455 had left BIA for Narita, Japan last night at 8.20 p.m.

However, due to the failure of the computer system to indicate the wheel system of this aircraft, the pilot decided to return to the BIA after two hours and 25 minutes of airtime. The aircraft landed at the BIA at 10.45 p.m.

At that time, there were 301 people on board, including passengers and crew members.

Later, the passengers were sent to Japan on another flight, the Duty Manager said. (T.K.G. Kapila)
