Colombo, Sept. 2 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lankan wildlife photographer Lakshitha Karunarathna’s photograph “Toxic Tip” has been selected among the 100 award-winning entries at the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition, organised for the 61st time by the Natural History Museum in London.
The image, which shows a solitary elephant walking through a waste disposal site in Sri Lanka, was chosen from a record 60,636 submissions from around the world.
Karunarathna has been documenting the conflict between humans and the country’s wild elephant population, estimated at around 7,500.
His work often reveals the harsh reality of elephants searching for food in open rubbish dumps across the island.
